Report on long-term and short-term monitoring of October 4th, 2008 Senate Elections

Republican Network of Independent Monitors for the first time implemented long-term and short-term monitoring of indirect (via electors) October 4, 2008 elections of deputies to Senate of Parliament. Monitoring was held on elections day and also during whole period, preceding day of elections.

RNIM’s goal was to conduct nation-wide monitoring of law order in electoral process and provide objective evaluation of Kazakhstan Senate of Parliament elections in respect to openness and legitimacy of the process and also its legislative provision. Main directions of independent monitoring include election procedure monitoring and revealing facts and violations, threatening its legality and justice, prevention of violations, and also introducing changes to electoral legislation based on implemented monitoring.
