The Central Election Committee of Belarus has accounted for forming 110 district electoral commissions for election of deputies of the “chamber of representatives”. The number of oppositionists there is negligibly small. 1430 citizens have become members of the commissions, the CEC Secretary Nikalay Lazavik informs.
Parliamentary election campaign to start 24 June, with the possible date of the parliamentary elections is 28 September. During the meeting with head of the Central election Commission Lidziya Yarmoshyna Lukashenka emphasized that the elections should be held in a “democratic and maximally open way”.
Final results of elections to local elections were announced on January, 18th during the session of Central Election Commission. There were no sensations. There were only slight changes to separate numbers among those that were previously announced. For example, voter turnout has become even more impressive -79,2% of voters participated.
In Vitebsk area have voted 90,4 % of the citizens who having the right to vote, in Mogilyov — 83,3 %, in Gomel — 82,7 %, in Minsk — 81,4 %, in Grodno — 80,3 %, in Brest — 80,1 %, in Minsk — 60,1 %.
Still the Gomel area is in the lead - there bulletins for voting have filled 15,5 % of voters from the general list. In the Brest area have voted 12,7 % of voters, in Vitebsk - 14,2 %, in Grodno - 11,5 %, in Minsk - 12,7 %, in Mogilyov - 12,6 % and in the city of Minsk - 8 %. Nikolay Lozovik has noted, that " prescheduled voting passes actively enough, including in a countryside".
An activist of elections observation campaign “Partnerstva”, a political prisoner Tsimafei Dranchuk has been released December 26 from the penal colony No.1 in Minsk. Tsimafei Dranchuk and three more activists of “Partnerstva” were detained on February 21. He was the last released.
The head of Central election commission Lidia Ermoshina announced, that preliminary voting on local councils’ elections will start January 9. About two hundred oppositional candidates take part in the elections – as many as three main opposition parties managed to register.
Propaganda campaign of candidates to local councils which has begun on December, 15th, will be going on to January, 13th inclusive. It will pass in parallel with preschedule voting. Let us remind, that day of elections is appointed to January, 14th, 2007.
Procedure of candidates' registration will finish on December, 14th. Then propaganda campaign will begin. At present competition of potential candidates of local advice makes only 1,1 person on the mandate.
On December 6 leaders of the democratic movement of Belarus made a joint address to the UN Human Rights Council, and to the heads of the countries member of the UN Security Council with an appeal to consider the issue of gross human rights violations in Belarus.
