	State of emergency not extended in Erevan At the moment the president of Armenia is not intended to extend the time limits of the announced state of emergency. At present, extraordinary sessionб called by more then 60 MPs, is on the way in parliament. The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Office in Yerevan was established in 1999. On 17 January 2001 Armenia became a member of the Council of Europe. The office is working closely with Armenian authorities in implementing the commitments undertaken by Armenia. In particular, the Office is involved in the process of reviewing current legislation to bring it in conformity with European and international standards.

Other priority areas include assistance in legislative reforms (environmental, media, electoral police, NGOs, civil society, Ombudsman), combating corruption, establishment of the Public Defender Institution (Ombudsman), implementing international conventions on economic/environmental security (Aarhus convention), human rights education, police/prison officials' training, trafficking in human beings, gender and youth issues and involvement of civil society on a large scale of activities.
